A bomb at rest explodes into 2 fragments of mass m and 3m, if speed of ‘m’ is v find the speed of the other fragment.

● Explaination -

Consider, a bomb splits into two pieces of mass m and 3m moving with velocities v & v'.

Initially bomb was at rest, hence initial momentum will be zero.

By law of conservation of momentum,

Pi = Pf

0 = m.v + 3m.v'

3m.v' = -m.v

v' = -v/3

Therefore, velocity of other fragment of bomb is v/3 in opposite direction.
