SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • A box contains 2 red marbles balls 3 white marble balls 5 green marble balls

  • Two balls are drawn at random

TO DETERMINE

The probability of getting both white

EVALUATION

Here it is given that a box contains 2 red marbles balls 3 white marble balls 5 green marble balls

So the total number marble balls

= 2 + 3 + 5

= 10

Now 2 balls are drawn at random

So the total number of possible outcomes

 \sf{ =   \:  {}^{10}C_2  }

 = 45

Let A be the event that both balls are white

Then the total number of possible outcomes for the event A is

 \sf{ =   \:  {}^{3}C_2  }

 = 3

Hence the required probability

= P(A)

 =  \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{3}{45} }

 =  \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{1}{15} }
