SOLUTION :

GIVEN : Number of red marbles  = 5

Number of white marbles = 8

Number of green marbles = 4

Total number of marbles in a bag = 5 + 8+4 = 17

Total number of outcomes = 17

(i) Let E1 = Event  of selecting that a  marble drawn is red

Number of red marbles = 5

Number of outcome favourable to E1 =5

Probability (E1) = Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of outcomes

P(E1) = 5/17

Hence, the required probability of getting a red marble , P(E1) = 5/17.

(ii) Let E2 = Event  of selecting that a  marble drawn is white

Number of white marbles = 8

Number of outcome favourable to E2 = 8

Probability (E2) = Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of outcomes

P(E2) = 8/17

Hence, the required probability of getting marble drawn is white, P(E2) = 8/17.

(ii) Let E3 = Event  of selecting that a  marble drawn is not green

Number of not green marbles = (5+8)= 13

Number of outcome favourable to E3 = 13

Probability (E3) = Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of outcomes

P(E3) = 13/17

Hence, the required probability of getting marble drawn is not green , P(E3) = 13/17.

Total marbles=17

Red marbles=5

So its probability=5/17

White marbles=8

So its probability=8/17

Marbles which are not green in colour=13

So its probability=13/17
