1-1/3+1/4=12-4-3/12=5/12 . Total no of balls=12/5×40=96balls

The total number of balls is 96.

Let the total number of balls be X.

Probability of getting A ball is X/3

Probability of getting B ball is X/4

Total probability = 1

Probability of getting  a C ball would be 1-X/3 - X/4 = 5X/12

The total number of C balls is 40

Equating both,

40 = 5X/12

X = 96

hence, total balls is 96
