Given : A box contains four slips numbered 1, 2 ,3 ,4 and another box contains three slips number 1,2,3.   one slip is taken from each

To Find : a) What is the total number of all possible outcomes?

b) Write all possible pairs.

c) What is the probability of the product of two numbers of each pair been a perfect square?

d )  What is the probability of the product being a prime number?

Solution:

A = { 1 , 2 ,3  , 4 }

B  = { 1 , 2  , 3 }

3 x 4 = 12 possible outcomes

All Possible pairs

= { (1 , 1) , ( 1, 2) , ( 1, 3) ,

   (2 , 1) , ( 2, 2) , ( 2, 3) ,

   (3, 1) , ( 3, 2) , ( 3, 3) ,

   (4 , 1) , ( 4, 2) , ( 4, 3)  }

probability of the product of two numbers of each pair been a perfect square

Product Perfect Square    ( 1. 1)  , ( 2, 2) , ( 3, 3)  ,( 4 , 1)

probability of the product of two numbers of each pair been a perfect square  = 4/12  = 1/3

probability of the product being a prime number

( 1, 3) , ( 1, 2)  ,( 2 , 1) , ( 3 , 1)

probability of the product being a prime number = 4/12  = 1/3
