A box is being pushed by two stellar science students, one on each side of the box. Peter is pushing the box with a force of 10 N to the left. Josh is pushing the box with a force of 15 N to the right. Who is the stronger individual and what is the net force and direction on the box?

Answer:

Josh is stronger.

Net force = 5N

Direction of Net force = Right

Explanation:

Peter is pushing box towards left with force

F1 = 10 N

Josh is pushing the same box towards right with a force F2=15N

Thus, the net force on the box will be

Fnet = F2-F1

= 15N-10N = 5N

This force will be ofcourse towards right direction.

Balanced and Unbalanced Forces

First Law

Inertia and Mass

State of Motion

Balanced vs. Unbalanced Forces

Newton's first law of motion has been frequently stated throughout this lesson.

An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
