A box open at the top has it's outer dimensions 10cm , 9cm and 2.5cm and its thickness is 0.5cm , find the volume of the metal

Volume of the Box = l × b × h

                                 = 10 × 9 × 2.5

                                 = 225.0 cm³

The Dimensions of the box without the thickness =

 l = 10-0.5 = 9.5     b = 9-0.5 = 8.5     h = 2.5-0.5 = 2.0                                    

Volume of the Box without the

Thickness of the Metal = 9.5 × 8.5 × 2.0

                                        = 80.75 × 2

                                        = 161.50 cm³

Volume of the Metal required

to make the Box of Metal = volume of the box - Volume of the box

                                                                               without the metal covering

                                             = 225.0 - 161.50

                                             = 64.50 cm³
