Given:

A box with a weight of 650 N is sitting on the ground .

Dimensions of bottom surface of block

length = 0.7 m breadth = .5 m

To Find:

What is the pressure exerted by the box on the ground

Solution:

Pressure is defined as the External normal force acting on body per unit area.

Pressure is always normal to surface.

Pressure can be measured using barometers, manometers etc.

Pressure = \frac{Normal force}{Area}

S.I Unit of Pressure = \frac{N}{m^{2} } or Pascal.

Pressure is a scalar quantity.

Normal force = 650 N

Area = .5 ×.7 =.35 m^{2}

P = \frac{650}{.35} \\\\P  = 1857.14 Pa

Pressure exerted  by the block on the ground is equal to 1857.14 Pa.
