Solution,

In the east it covers 30m and in the south it covers 40m

As it forms a right angle triangle by these two distances, its other side will be the displacement of the boy.

So, displacement=√30²+40²

                              =√900+1600

                              =√2500
                              =50m

Hence, displacement will be 50 m.
