Displacement in this case is zero 0, since he started and returned to the same point.
Hence average velocity= Total Displacement /Time
Average Velocity= 0 (As total displacement is zero)

SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

A boy goes from A to B with a velocity of 20 m/min and comes back from B to A with a velocity of 30 m/min. The average velocity of the boy during the whole journey is

(a) 24 m/min

(b) 25 m/s

(c) Zero

(d) 20 m/min

EVALUATION

Here it is given that a boy goes from A to B with a velocity of 20 m/min and comes back from B to A with a velocity of 30 m/min.

So the boy comes back to the initial position

∴ Initial position = Final Position

Displacement

= Final Position - Initial position

= 0

Hence the required average velocity of the boy during the whole journey

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{Total \:  displacement}{Total \:  time }   }

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{0}{Total \:  time }   }

\displaystyle \sf{  = 0}

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is (c) Zero
