A boy is riding a scooter at a
speed of 20 m/s. On turning a
corner he saw a child in the middle of road at a distance of 100m. If the retardation provided by the is brakes is 1.5 m/s will he avoid the accidents if yes by how much distance?

Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

Accident will not be avoided.

● Explaination -

Minimum stopping distance for the scooter is calculated by -

v^2 = u^2 + 2as

0^2 = 20^2 + 2×(-1.5)×s

3s = 400

s = 400 / 3

s = 133.3 m

As this stopping distance is more than distance between scooter & child (i.e. 133 m > 100 m), boy on scooter won't be able to avoid that accident.

Thanks dear.
