A boy ran for 15 minutes at an average speed of 20 km/h. He then continued to run at an average speed of 12 km/h for 30 minutes. What was the total distance he ran?

Let the required speed be ‘s’.

In 15 minutes with initial speed, he will cover = 10 * 1/4 = 2.5 km

If average speed after 30 minutes is 12 km/hr, then the total distance covered by him will be ,

= 12 * 1/2 = 6 km

The distance covered in the next 15 minutes will then be,

s * 1/4 = 6 -2.5 = 3.5 km

Hence the required speed = 3.5 * 4 =14 km/hr
