a boy releases a ball from the top of a building.It will clear a window 2m high at a distance 10m below the top in nearly how much seconds? Dividing both sides by 10 we get-1 = -(1/2)t2 =>2 = t2 => t = sqrt(2) s => t = 1.414s (approx.)

Concept:

What does "freefall" mean?

A situation in which an object is only moving as a result of the gravitational pull of the Earth is known as freefall. The motion will continue to accelerate as long as there is an external force acting on the item. The acceleration of freefall is this.

What is weight?

The amount of a body's weight indicates how much gravity is pulling on it.

The weight formula is as follows: w = mg

Equations of motion during freefall,

Since, u=0

v=gt

v²=2gS

S=1/2gt²

Given:

a boy releases a ball from the top of a building.It will clear a window 2m high at a distance 10m below the top

Find:

Time to clear the window

Solution:

Total distance=10+2

                       =12m

Since, the ball is released so u=0

S=ut+1/2gt²

12= 0 xt+.5 x 9.8 t²

⇒12=4.9t²

⇒t²=12/4.9

⇒t=√2.44

     =1.56 seconds

Therefore, the total time taken =1.56 seconds
