let the father's age be x and son's age be y

y = x/4 ---> x = 4y ....... (1)

y+24 = (x+24)/2
2y + 48 = x + 24

x - 2y = 24

substituting x = 4y

4y - 2y = 24

2y = 24

y = 12

Hence son's age = 12
father's age = 12 ×4 = 48
