A boy standing in his balcony heard the sound of lightning after 2 seconds of the flash. Calculate the distance between boy and the lightning. If speed of sound is 340m/s and speed of light is 3*10^8m/s.

Distance= speed of sound × time

2d= v×t

2d=340×2

2d=680

d=680÷3

d=340m

Answer:

680m

Explanation:

let the lightning is seen by the boy in x seconds.

d=S×T

d=3×10^8×x ------------eq.1

If lightning takes x seconds.Then the time taken by sound acc. to ques is (x+2)sec

Thus,ď=S×T

ď=340×(x+2) ---------eq.2

As,the distance will be same(d=ď) in both cases of light and sound so by equating eq.1 and eq.2 we get,

3×10^8×x=340×(x+2)

by solving this eq. we get 680/3×10^8=x

Then put x in eq.1 we get d=ď=680m
