This happened because of acceleration due to gravity. On reaching the highest point, it's velocity becomes 0 and it returns.

A BOY THREW A BALL AND IT CAME BACK WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING BECAUSE HE THREW IT UPWARDS
WHEN HE THREW IT UPWARDS IT DID NOT TOUCH ANYTHING BUT IT CAME DOWN DUE TO THE GRAVITATIONAL PULL OF THE EARTH.
