Q. A boy travel 10m North and then 7 m east. Find displacement travelled by boy.

Answer :-

\sqrt{149m}

Solution:-

From Attachment It is clear that the figure formed is right angle. And displacement is given by its hypotenuse.

AB = 10 m North

BC = 7 m east

AC = displacement

Now, In \triangle {ABC} \angle {B} = 90°

AB^2 + BC^2 = AC^2

(by using Pythagoras theorem)

10^2 + 7^2 = AC^2

 100 + 49 =AC^2

 149 = AC^2

 AC =\sqrt{149}m

hence, displacement covered by boy = \sqrt{149m}
