Rani Laxmi Bai popularly known as Rani of Jhansi is a brave woman, and she fought a great battle to defend her fort as a fortress.
Explanation-
- Laxmi Bai was a Brahmin girl and was brought up under the guidance of Baji Rao II.
- She was trained in sword fighting, riding and martial arts.
- Laxmi Bai got married to the king of Jhansi and widowed without bearing any child to lead the empire or sit on the throne therefore she adopted a boy as the heir to the throne.
- Lord Dalhousie (governor-general of India) introduced Doctrine of Lapse and it stated that small provinces were to be taken and looked after by the East India Company.
- Rani Laxmi Bai refused to surrender to the Britishers.
- During the revolt of 1857 in Meerut, she announced herself as the substitute to the throne of Jhansi and started her regime on behalf of her adopted minor son.
- She organized her army to fight against the Britishers and she received a lot of help and support from her neighbouring kingdoms.
- Tantia Tope and Rani Laxmi Bai succeded in taking over Gwalior and marched to Morar to attack British army led by Rose.
- She disguised herself as a man and fought bravely in the fierce battle and was killed unfortunately.
