A builder buys a plot of land on which to build houses. The plot is in the shape of a right-angled triangle with sides of 300m, 400m and 500m (a) What is the area of the plot in hectares? (b) 75% of the land will be occupied by houses. What area will be occupied by houses (in hectares) (c) 15 houses are built. What is the mean area of land for each house? Give your answer in square meters.

(a) Area of plot = 1/2 * base * Height

= 0.5 * 300 * 400

= 60000 sq. metres

= 60000/10000 hectares

= 6 hectares

(b) 75% of plot will be occupied by houses

= 75% * total area of plot

= 75% * 6

= 4.5 hectares

(c) 15 houses are built in housing area

4.5 hectares = 4.5 * 10000 = 45000 sq. metres

Area of each house = 45000 / 15 = 3000 sq. m
