A bullet fired from a gun at an angle 30° with horizontal direction hits the ground 3 km away on the ground. By adjusting only the angle of projection is it possible to hit the target 5 km away? Show with calculation. (neglect air-resistance)

Dear Student,

● Answer -

It is not possible to hit the target at 5 km.

◆ Explaination -

Horizontal range is given by formula -

R = u^2.sin2θ / g

3000 = u^2 × sin60° / 10

u^2 = 3000 × 10 / 0.866

u^2 = 34642

u = 186 m/s

Maximum range possible at θ = 45°,

Rmax = 186^2 × sin90° / 10

Rmax = 34642 × 1 / 10

Rmax = 3464 m

Rmax = 3.464 km

As Ramax < 5 km, it is not possible to hit the target at 5 km.

Thanks dear...
