a bullet loses 1/2 of its velocity after penetrating 30 cm into plank. how much further will it travel before coming to rest

"F",initial velocity="2v" and mass as "m".

Apply Energy conservation.

F*3= 1/2m(4v^2-v^2)

F=1/2mv^2.

v = u/2. s = 30 cm.
a = (v^2 - u^2)/2s = - u^2 /80 cm/sec^2.

for coming to rest. ..
s = (0^2 - u^2 /4) / 2a
s = 10 cm.

Bullet travels a further 10cm.
