Given, the bullet is moving with a speed of 10m/s

=> u = 10 m/s

It stops after penetrating a wooden plank 2 cm deep.

=> v = 0 m/s (since it stops)
s = 2 cm

Convert cm to m,

2cm = 2/100 m = 0.02 m


Now, we have to find the retardation, that I, the negative acceleration.


From the third equation of motion, we have

v² - u² = 2as

Put the values to get the retardation.

=> (0)² - (10)² = 2a × 0.02

=> -100 = 0.04 a

=> a = -100/0.04

=> a = - 2500 m/s²


Answer :-
 - 2500 \: ms {}^{ - 2}
