A bullet of 10g moving with a speed of 100m/s penetrates a sand bag and comes to rest in 0.1 seconds .Find (a) the distance through which the bullet penetrates (b) the retarding force experienced.

mass of bullet =10g=0.01kg

acceleration of bullet =(v-u)/t

= (0-100)/0.1=-1000 m/s2

from equation of motion

v2-u2=2aS

0-10000=2×-1000 S

S=5m

force =m(v-u)/t

=0.01×(0-100)/0.1

=-10N
