Answer:

Speed of recoil = 0.53m/s

Explanation:

Mass of Bullet = 0.02kg

Mass of gun = 7.5kg

Velocity of bullet = 200m/s

Let the velocity of the gun be v m/s

Final momentum of bullet = (0.02 × 200)kgm/s = 4 kgm/s

Final momentum of gun = 7.5v kgm/s

Before firing, both the gun and the bullet are at rest

Hence, initial momentum = 0 kgm/s

According to law of conservation of momentum,

Momentum before firing = Momentum after firing

=> 0 = 4 + 7.5v

=> 7.5v = -4

=> v = -4/7.5 = -0.53m/s

The negative sign indicates the recoil is in the opposite direction of the motion of the bullet

Hence, velocity of recoil = 0.53m/s
