Answer:

This is based on the conservation of momentum, according to this the momentum of bullet should be equals to momentum of gun.

Pbullet = Pgun

P= mv

Mass of bullet is 20 gm= 0.02 kg , velocity= 400m/sec

Mass of gun = 8kg, and let velocity is V

So, 0.02×400 = 8×V

So, V= 1 m/sec

This is the recoil velocity of gun

Answer:

-1 m/s

Explanation:

The system's initial momentum P_{i} = 0

M_{bullet} = 20 g  ( Mass of Bullet )

M_{gun}=8kg    ( Mass of Gun )

V_{bullet} = 400 m/s (Velocity of Bullet )

The conservation of linear momentum has been used below,

P_{f} =P_{i}

M_{gun} V + M_{bullet} V_{bullet}  = 0

8V + 0.02 * 400 = 0

8V + 8=0

8V = -8

V =\frac{8}{-8}

V = - 1 m/s
