its the question of momentum the momentum before and after the impact should be the same
assume the velocity after impact be x
before impact momentum = 20 × 500
after impact momentum = (1020 × x)
so 20 × 500 = 1020 × x
10000/1020 = x
x = 9.80 m/s
assume the velocity after impact be x
before impact momentum = 20 × 500
after impact momentum = (1020 × x)
so 20 × 500 = 1020 × x
10000/1020 = x
x = 9.80 m/s

Let M be the mass of wooden block, m be the mass of bullet, V be the velocity of wooden block and v be the velocity of bullet
Since momentum is conserved,
(M+m)V=mv
(1kg+0.020kg)×V=0.02kg×500m/s
So V= 9.8
Hope it helps u☺️☺️☺️
