ANSWER:

Recoil velocity of pistol = 2.25 m/s

Explanation:

given that,

a bullet of mass 30 g is horizontally fired with a velocity of 150 m/s is fired by a pistol

so,

here,

mass of bullet = 30 g

by converting of 30 g into kg

= 30 /1000

= 0.03 kg

velocity of bullet = 150 m/s

so here,

momentum of bullet will be

mass of bullet × velocity at which it fired

putting the values,

Momentum = 0.03 kg × 150 m/s

= 4.5 kgm/s

now,

also given that

the mass of pistol = 2 kg

let the velocity at which the pistol recolled be v

now,

momentum of pistol

= mass of pistol × recoil velocity of pistol

putting the values

2 × v

= 2v

now,

by the law of conservation of momentum

➡The total momentum of the two objects before the collision is equal to the total momentum of the two objects after the collision.

so,

ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM

2v = 4.5

v = 4.5/2

v = 2.25 m/s

so,

Recoil velocity of pistol = 2.25 m/s
