a bullet of mass 50g is fired from below into a suspended object of mass 450g. the object rises through a height of 1.8 metre with bullet remaining inside the object.find the speed of the bullet.TAKE g=10ms-1

The speed of the bullet will be equal to 18.97 m/s.

  • Let initial speed of the bullet be v.
  • When it hits the object , it gets embedded into the object and rises along with the object.
  • The speed of the system at the maximum height will be zero.
  • So, by conservation of energy on the system, we get -

                                             mv²/2= (M+m)gh

  • Substituting the  values and solving we get v=18.97 m/s.
