A bus and a car start from rest and run along a straight line with constant acceleration of 2m/s2 and 3m/s2
respectively, with the car behind the bus at distance of 100 m. How long will it take before both the bus
and car travel side by side.

Answer:

14.1421 s

Explanation:

u of bus = u1 = 0

u of car = u2 = 0

a1 = 2

a2 = 3

relative acceleration of car = a2 - a1 = 3 - 2 = 1 m/s^2

For the car,

u = 0, a = 1, s = 100, t = ?

Distance between = 100 = s

s = ut + 1/2at^2

100 = 1/2 x 1 x t^2

100 x 2 = t^2

\sqrt{200} = t

10\sqrt{\\2} = t = 14.1421 seconds
