A bus​ averages 2 miles per hour faster than a car. If the bus travels 190 miles in the same time it takes the car​ to travel 180 miles, then what is the speed of each?

Answer:

let speed of the car is x.

so, the speed of the bus is x+2

let the time is t

now, for the car, x= 180/t

t = 180/x

for the bus , x+2=190/t

t=190/(x+2)

then from the above equations we can say

180/x = 190/(x+2)

190x-180x = 360

10x = 360

x = 36

so, the speed of car is 36 mile per hour

and the speed of bus is 36+2=38 mile per hour
