A bus covers a distance of 240 km at a uniform speed.Due to heavy rain its speed gets reduced by 10 km per hour and as such it takes 2 hours longer to cover the total distance.assuming the uniform speed to be 'x' kilometre per hour form an equation and solve it to evaluate x.

then let the speed of the bus be x km/h. then time taken by the bus for the first=240/x hrs.
 and
time taken by the bus after raining to cover the distance=240/x-10
.
by the question we have, (240/x-10)-(240/x)=2hrs
.
=>2400=2x(x-10)=>
2x²-20x-2400=0
=>
x²-10x-1200=0=>
x²-(40-30)x-1200=0
=>x(x-40)+30(x-40)=0=>x=40km/h.
hence the speed of the bus=40km/h.
