23 L of diesel was first filled in the bus tank by the driver.
The cost of diesel is Rs 38 per L.
So the cost of 23 L  = 23 × 38 = Rs 874
Then he again filled the tank with 24 L of diesel.
So the cost of 24 L of diesel = 24 × 38 = Rs 912

Total cost for the diesel = 874 + 912 = Rs 1786

By using distributive property ,
[a+b]c = a×b + a×c
Here , a = 24 , b = 23 and c= 38
So , [24+23]38 = 24×38  + 23×38 = 874 + 912 = 1786
So the same answer.

He filled diesel first = 23L of diesel
He Filled diesel second= 24L of diesel
Cost of 1L of diesel= 38Rs
Cost of 23L of diesel= 38 x 23
                                =874 Rs
Cost of 24L of diesel=24x 38
                                =912 Rs
total cost of the diesel filled in the bus= 874+912
                                                           =1,786
Hence, total cost of diesel filled in the bus is Rs 1,786
