A bus has to cover a distance of 72 km in 1 hour 30 min. However for the first 36 km it travels at 54 km per hour. At what speed must it travel for the rest of the distance in order to complete the journey in time​

For the first part of the journey the time taken is:

t = 36/54=2/3 hrs

His total journey should last 1 hours 30 minutes= 3/2 hours

Therefore after the first part of the journey, its time left is

t= (3/2) - (2/3)= 5/6 hours

The remaining distance to travel is

d = 72 – 36 = 36km

The bus should then travel at a speed of

v= 36 / (5/6) =43.2 km/hour
