Given :

u = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

v = 0

s = 72 m

t = 5 s

Using the equation of motion,

v = u + at \\ a =  \frac{v - u}{</u><u>t</u><u>}  \\ a =  \frac{0 - 10}{5}  \\ a =  \frac{ - 10}{5}  =  - 2 \: m {s}^{ - 2}

Retardation = 2 ms^-2

Answer:

u initial speed =36km/hr

v final speed= 0

time t = 5 sec

v= u+at

0=36+a*t
