Initial velocity of the bus (u) = 54 km/h = 15 m/s

Final velocity of the bus (v) = 0 m/s (Coming to rest)

Let the acceleration provided by the brakes be a.

Time taken by the bus to come to rest (t) = 8 seconds

Using the first equation of motion:

v = u + at

a = \frac{v-u}{t}

a = \frac{15}{8}

a = 1.875 m/s^2

Hence, the acceleration provided by the brakes is 1.875 m/s^2
