A bus of length 3m has a rearview mirror of focal length 3m.The driver observes the images of a car and a bike which are 2m and 6m away from the back of the bus . What is the possible distance between the images formed in the rearview mirror

f = R/2 = 3/2 = 1.5m

We know that

1/v + 1/u = 1/f

⇒ 1/v + 1/-5 = 1/1.5

⇒ 1/v = 1/5 + 2/3 = (3 + 10)/15 = 13/15

∴ v = (15/13)m = 1.15 m

The image is formed 1.15 m behind the mirror.

The image is virtual and erect.
