Avg. Speed = s / t.    ( s = 20000m and t = 45 * 60 s )
                   = 20000 / 45 * 60
                    = 7.5 m/s

Actual speed is different from the average speed as the speed of the bus is changed by the bus driver so as to move smoothly

Given : A bus travels a distance of 20 km from Chennai Central to Airport in 45 minute.

To find :

  1. What is the average speed?
  2. Why actual speed differs from average speed?

Using formula :

★ Average speed = Distance covered/Time taken.

Solution (1) :

• First of all we have to convert kilometer into meter and minute into second.

  • 20 km × 1000 = 20000 m.
  • 45 min × 60 = 27000 sec.

Average speed = m/s

→ Average speed = 20000/2700

Average speed = 7.407 m/s

Solution (2) :

→ Actual speed is different from Average speed. Actual speed is the speed which is considered only for particular unit per time.
