Correct Question-:

  • A bus travels at a speed of 50 km/h for 12 min and then at a speed of 40km/h for next 18 min . Find the total distance covered by the bus during these times .

AnswEr-:

  • The total distance covered by bus is 22 km

Explanation

Given ,

  • A bus travels at a speed of 50 km/h for 12 min and then at a speed of 40km/h for next 18 min .

To Find ,

  • The total distance covered by the bus .

Solution -:

As , we know that ,

\boxed{\purple{\sf{Distance \: = \: Speed × Time }}}

There are two cases -:

  1. In 1st case

  • The bus travels at a speed of 50 km/h for 12 min .

~ Distance Covered = Speed × Time

  • Time = 12 min = 12/60 hrs [ Converted into hours ]
  • Speed = 50 km/h

Now ,

  • = 12/60 × 50
  • = 》1/5 × 50
  • = 》 10 km

Therefore,

  • In 1st Case it covers distance of 10 km .

In 2nd case

  • The bus travels at a speed of 40 km/h for 18 min .

~ Distance Covered = Speed × Time

  • Time = 18 min = 18/60 hrs [ Converted into hours ]
  • Speed = 40 km/h

Now ,

  • = 》 18/60 × 40
  • = 》18/3 × 2
  • = 》 6 × 2
  • = 》 12 km

Therefore,

In 2nd Case it covers distance of 12 km

Then,

~ Total distance covered by bus is = Distance covered in 1st case + Distance Covered in 2nd case

Here ,

  • In 2nd Case it covers distance of 12 km
  • In 1st Case it covers distance of 10 km .

Now ,

  • = 》 10 km + 12 km
  • = 》 22 km

Hence ,

  • The total distance covered by bus is 22 km .
