Given :

Volume of CO₂ at STP = 112L

Molar mass = 44 g/mol

To Find :

Mass of CO₂ and number of molecules present in the sample.

Solution :

❖ We know that volume of 1 mole of compound at STP = 22.4 L

Mass of 1 mole of CO₂ = 44 g

Therefore we can say that,

Mass of 22.4 L of CO₂ = 44 g

Mass of 112 L of CO₂ is given by

➙ m = 44 × 112/22.4

➙ m = 44 × 5

  • Moles of CO₂ = 5

m = 220 g

Number of molecules :

➙ N = n × (6.022 × 10²³)

where n denotes moles of CO₂

➙ N = 5 × 6.022 × 10²³

➙ N = 30.11 × 10²³

N = 3.011 × 10²⁴ molecules
