Given :-

Here,

Dimensions of bricks = 10m * 5m * 2m

Length of the brick = 10m

Breath of the brick = 5m

Height of the brick = 2m

Given mass of the brick = 2.5kg

1) Calculate the pressure exerted by a brick of dimension 10m * 5m * 2m and mass 2.5kg when placed vertically

Sol) Here,

Area of the brick = Area of the top

The brick is in rectanglular shape

As we know that,

Area of rectangle = Length * Breath

Therefore,

Area of brick = 2 * 5 = 10m^2

Now ,

Pressure exerted = Force / Area

[ Force = mass * acceleration , acceleration due to gravity = 9.8m/s^2 ]

Pressure exerted = ( 2.5 * 9.8 )/ 10

Pressure exerted = 24.5/10

Pressure exerted = 2.45kgf m^-2

2) When placed horizontally

Sol) Area of rectangle = Length * Breath

Therefore,

Area of brick = 10 * 5 = 50cm^2

Now,

Pressure exerted = F / A

Put the required values,

Pressure exerted = ( 2.5 * 9.8)/50

Pressure exerted = 24.5/50

Pressure exerted = 0.49kgf m^-2 .
