Answer:3.5 days

Given:

A can complete work in 24 days,b in 30 and c in 18 days

To find:

Time taken by A and C to complete the work

Solution:-

Total fraction of work done by a,b and c in one day

 \frac{1}{24} +  \frac{1}{30} +  \frac{1}{18}

 =  \frac{47}{360}

Work completed by them is 5 days

 \frac{47}{360} \times 5

 =  \frac{47}{72}

•After working together for 5 days B falls sick

Then, remaining work=

1 -  \frac{47}{52}

 =  \frac{72 - 47}{72}

 =  \frac{25}{72}

Without B work done by A and C

 \frac{1}{24} +  \frac{1}{18}

 =  \frac{7}{72}

Now

Number of days for A and C to complete work

 \frac{7}{72} \div  \frac{25}{72}

 \frac{7}{72} \times  \frac{72}{25}

 \frac{7}{25}

3.5

------------

Time taken by A and C to complete the work=3.5 days

To find :-

Time taken by A and C to the remaining work.

Solution :-

Total fraction of work completed by A, B and C in one day

= 1/24 + 1/30 + 18

= 47/360

• fraction of work completed by A, B and C in 5 days

= (47/360) × 5

= 47/72

• After working together for 5 days, B falls sick

Then, remaining work

= 1 - (47/72)

= 25/72

• Without B, the completed by A and C in one day

= 1/24 + 1/18

= 25/72

No. of days for A and C to complete the remaining work

= 7/72 ÷ 25/72

= 7/72 × 72/25

= 25/7

3.5 days
