Step-by-step explanation:

A can do a work in 12 days.

so A's 1 day work =1/12

B can do a work in 16 days.

so B's 1 day work=1/16.

they worked together for 3 days.

so work completed=A's 3 days work+B's 3 days work=3/12+3/16=1/4+3/16=7/16

work left=1-7/16=9/16

as A left,so remaining 9/16 work has to be completed by B

B does 1 work in 16 days.

B does 9/16 work in=16*9/16= 9 days.

so B will take 9 days to complete the remaining work
