A can do a piece of work in 18 days. he worked at it for 12 days and b finished the remaining work in 8 days. b alone can do the whole work in 24 days.

In 18 days, A can do a piece of work.

∴ In 1 day, A can do (1/18)th part of the work.

∴ In 12 days, A can do 12×(1/18) th part of the work = (12/18) = (2/3)rd part of the work.

∴ Part of work remaining = 1 - (2/3) = 1/3

So, (1/3)rd of the work is completed by B in 8 days.

So, the entire work is completed in (8×3) = 24 days.

So, B would take 24 days to finish the whole work.
