A can do a piece of work in 40 days.the work at it for 8 days and then B finishes the remaining work in 16 days.how long will they take to complete the work if they do it together

let the work be w
work done by A in single day is w / 40
given it works for 8 days => work = 8 * w/40 = w/5
remaining is done by b in 16 days
let work done by b in a day be w / b
=> (w / b) * 16 = 4w/5
=> b = 20
so if they work together then work done in a day = w/40 + w/20 = 3w/40
=> no of days they need to complete is 40 / 3 days
