Capacity and volume:

Before we proceed to solve the problem, we must understand the relation between capacity and volume of any container.

The capacity of any container is defined by the space inside it filled by any substance and so is the definitive of volume to hold any definite space.

Thus we can conclude that the capacity of any container is its volume itself.

Solution:

Given that the capacity of the oil drum is 10 litres

Then its volume is also 10 litres but the unit has to be converted to a cubic unit

We know that 1 litre = 1000 cm³

Hence the volume of the oil drum is

= (10 * 1000) cm³

= 10000 cm³
