It is clear that it is a situation of L. C. M.

So we will find The L. C. M. of 16 and 18 that is 144. so distance travelled is 144 km.

Petrol needed for first car=144/16 litres

=9 litres

Petrol needed for second car=144/18

=8 litres

I hope it may help you.
