A car covers half a distance between two pts with a Speed of 40km/hr and next half with a Speed of 60km/hr. The average speed will be:

Av. Speed = Dist travelled/time taken

Time taken = dist. travelled/ speed

=(x/2)/40+(x/2)/60

=x/80+x/120

=(80x+120x)/(80×120)

=200x/9600

Av. speed=x/(200x/9600)=9600/200=48

Hence the average speed is 48 km/hr .
