Given info : A car covers one-fourth of the distance at 25 kmph and the remaining distance at double the speed.

To find : The total time taken is 10 hrs, then find the total distance.

solution : let total distance is x km

now car covers x/4 km at 25 kmph.

so, time taken by car , t = distance/speed

= (x/4)/25 = x/100 hrs ......(1)

remaining distance = (x - x/4) = 3x/4 km covers at double the speed.

so, time taken to cover the remaining distance by car, t' = (3x/4)/(2 × 25) = 3x/200 hrs .....(2)

as total time taken = 10 hrs

⇒t + t' = 10 hrs

⇒x/100 + 3x/200 = 10

⇒5x/200 = 10

⇒x = 2000/5 = 400 km

Therefore the total distance is 400 km.
