a car covers the first half of the distance between two places at a speed of 40 km per hour and the second half at 60 km per hour what is the average speed of the car

Average speed = Total distance travelled upon total time taken.

but here time is not given also distance is not given here only we have speed therefore we will use the formula of average velocity because speed and velocity and nothing but scalar and vector pairs of each other.


Therefore average velocity = initial velocity plus final velocity upon 2
You can write velocity as speed in your answer.
now back to the answer we get,
=40+60/2=100/2=50km/hr.
