Question :- A car factory cuts sheets of metal that are two and ninety-eight thousandths meters long. How could you write the length of the sheets of metal in standard form ?

Solution :-

Standard Form :- Standard form is a way of writing down very large or very small numbers easily.

Example :-

→ 1000 = 10³

→ 6000 = 6 * 1000 = 6 * 10³ .

So , 6000 can be written as (6 * 10³) .

Now, we have to write , two and ninety-eight thousandths meters in standard form.

So,

2,98,000 = 298 * 1000

→ 2,98,000 = 298 * 10³

(Multiply and divide by 100) we get,

→ 2,98,000 = (298/100) * 10³ * 100

→ 2,98,000 = 2.98 * 10³ * 10² .

{a^b * a^c = a^(b + c)} .

Therefore,

2,98,000 = 2.98 * 10⁵ (Ans.)

Hence, Standard form of 2,98,000 is (2.98 * 10⁵).
